1. The eMPF Platform Has Been Fully Rolled Out

The transition to the eMPF Platform is officially complete. On 30 April 2026, the BEA (MPF) Industry Scheme became the final MPF scheme to migrate to the platform. The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) has confirmed the successful completion of the phased onboarding, with all 12 MPF trustees now integrated into one centralised system.

For HR and payroll teams in Hong Kong, this is a genuine simplification: MPF administrative instructions now go through a single eMPF Platform, rather than separate portals for each trustee.

This guide explains what the eMPF Platform is, its key features, how employers get set up, and how to prepare for using it effectively.

2. What Is the eMPF Platform?

The eMPF Platform (積金易) is Hong Kong’s centralised online system for managing all MPF schemes. It acts as a single, unified web portal (and mobile app) that handles employee enrolment, contribution submissions, payments, and ongoing MPF administration.

The platform is operated by eMPF Platform Company Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the MPFA, on a not-for-profit, cost-recovery basis. While the company manages the platform’s day-to-day operations, the MPFA remains Hong Kong’s statutory regulator under the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance (Cap. 485).

Why It Was Introduced

Before eMPF, employers had to deal with different systems depending on their MPF trustee. Each trustee operated its own portal, forms, and file formats. If your employees belonged to multiple MPF schemes, you had to log in to different websites, prepare different submission files, and manage separate administrative processes.

The eMPF Platform was built to standardise procedures, move transactions fully online, and reduce administrative costs over time.

Important: While the eMPF Platform changes how MPF administration is carried out, it does not change the underlying MPF rules. Contribution rates, statutory deadlines, eligibility requirements and employers’ legal responsibilities remain the same.

3. Key Features of the eMPF Platform

The eMPF Platform centralises MPF administration into a single online portal, allowing employers, employees and self-employed persons to manage their MPF-related tasks more efficiently.

Key eMPF Platform features for employers

For Employers:

Submit Monthly MPF Contributions

Employers can submit monthly MPF contribution information through a single platform, regardless of which MPF trustee they use. This eliminates the need to manage separate trustee portals or paper-based submissions.

Automatic MPF Contribution Calculation

The platform automatically calculates mandatory MPF contributions based on the applicable statutory rules, helping reduce manual calculations and minimise payroll errors.

Register New Employees

New employees can be enrolled into an MPF scheme directly through the eMPF Platform. For regular employees, enrolment must be completed within 60 days of the employment start date. The platform streamlines the enrolment process and helps employers complete it on time.

Process Employee Terminations

When an employee leaves the company, employers can submit the employee’s termination details and final MPF contribution information through the same platform, simplifying the offboarding process.

Multiple Electronic Payment Methods

MPF contributions can be paid using various electronic payment options, including:

  • FPS (Faster Payment System)

  • Direct Debit

  • e-Cheque

  • Online banking bill payment

These digital payment options provide a faster and more convenient alternative to manual payment processes.

Track Submission Status and Contribution Records

Employers can review contribution records, monitor the status of submissions and receive notifications for pending or overdue tasks, making it easier to manage monthly MPF administration.

User Access and Approval Control

Different access rights can be assigned to HR, payroll and finance personnel, allowing organisations to manage responsibilities while maintaining appropriate internal controls and data security.

Web Portal and Mobile App

The eMPF Platform is available through both a web portal and mobile app, allowing employers to manage MPF administration anytime and anywhere.

Key eMPF Platform features for employees and self-employed persons.

For Employees and Self-Employed Persons:

View All MPF Accounts in One Place

Users can access all their MPF accounts through a single dashboard, even if they have changed employers or previously held accounts with different trustees.

Consolidate MPF Accounts

Multiple MPF accounts can be consolidated into one account, making retirement savings easier to manage.

Update Personal Information

Contact details such as phone number, email address and residential address can be updated through the platform, with changes reflected across participating MPF schemes.

Submit Eligible Withdrawal Applications

Eligible MPF withdrawal applications, including retirement withdrawals and other circumstances permitted under the MPF legislation, can be submitted through the platform.

Track MPF Contributions

Users can view their contribution records in one place, allowing them to monitor employer and employee contributions and verify that contributions have been made correctly.

Manage Investment Choices

Users can update their MPF investment allocations online and switch between available MPF funds without submitting paper forms.

4. Getting Started with the eMPF Platform

Now that all MPF schemes have migrated to the eMPF Platform, employers only need to complete a few one-time setup steps before managing MPF administration through the platform. Once configured, day-to-day tasks such as employee enrolment, contribution submissions and payments can all be handled from a single portal.

Appoint an Authorised Representative

Designate an authorised representative to manage your organisation’s eMPF account. This is typically someone from the HR, payroll or finance team who will administer the account, approve transactions and manage user access.

Activate Your Employer Account

Register and activate your employer account using iAM Smart. The authorised representative must verify their identity with a Hong Kong Identity Card (HKID) before accessing the platform.

Configure User Access

Create user accounts for HR, payroll and finance personnel, then assign the appropriate access rights based on each person’s responsibilities. User permissions can be updated whenever roles change.

Set Up an Electronic Payment Method

Link your preferred payment method, such as Direct Debit, FPS, e-Cheque or online banking bill payment, so MPF contributions can be paid electronically through the platform.

Verify Employee Information

Before submitting your first contribution, review employee records to ensure names, HKID numbers and employment details are accurate. Correct information helps reduce processing delays and rejected submissions.

Start Managing MPF Online

Once your employer account has been activated and configured, you can begin enrolling employees, submitting MPF contributions, processing employee terminations and managing other MPF administration through the eMPF Platform.

5. Employer eMPF Preparation Checklist (2026)

Setting up your employer account is only the first step. Before your first MPF submission, it’s worth reviewing your payroll processes and internal workflows to ensure your organisation is ready to use the eMPF Platform efficiently.

6. Conclusion

The completion of the Hong Kong eMPF Platform is a major milestone in modernising MPF administration. Employers now handle MPF administrative tasks through a single centralised platform, making processes more consistent across all trustees.

The platform can calculate the mandatory contribution once you enter an employee’s relevant income, but it does not run your payroll or work out that relevant income for you. Determining salaries and relevant income (including allowances, bonuses, proration and unpaid leave) remains the employer’s responsibility, and those figures must be correct before contributions are submitted through the platform.

This is where JustLogin helps. It calculates payroll and the relevant income used for MPF contributions, then supports direct eMPF submission from within the JustLogin system. Instead of switching between payroll and the eMPF Platform, HR teams can manage payroll calculations and MPF administration in one connected workflow.

7. Frequently Asked Questions

Does eMPF replace my MPF trustee?

No. Your chosen trustee still manages your MPF scheme, invests the funds, and processes withdrawals. eMPF is simply the centralised platform that handles administration, data transmission, and the processing of contribution submissions and payments.

Do all employers have to use the eMPF Platform?

Yes. Following the completion of the phased transition on 30 April 2026, all MPF schemes are administered through the eMPF Platform, regardless of which trustee manages the scheme.

Is the eMPF transition complete?

Yes. The phased transition to the eMPF Platform began in June 2024 and was completed on 30 April 2026, when the BEA (MPF) Industry Scheme became the final scheme to migrate. All MPF schemes administered by the 12 MPF trustees are now on the eMPF Platform.

How does the “iAM Smart” requirement affect employees who registered with a passport?

Online self-registration uses iAM Smart, which requires a Hong Kong Identity Card (HKID), and the platform registers members by HKID rather than passport. Employees who enrolled using a passport, or whose trustee record shows a different identity document, should ensure their record matches their HKID or contact the eMPF Customer Service Hotline (183 2622) or an eMPF Service Centre for assistance.

Does the eMPF Platform calculate MPF contributions?

Yes, but only after you provide the required payroll information. The eMPF Platform automatically calculates mandatory MPF contributions based on the relevant income (and, where applicable, basic salary) entered by the employer. However, it does not determine an employee’s salary, relevant income, salary proration, unpaid leave or bonus calculations; those remain payroll responsibilities. In other words, eMPF calculates the contribution amount from the information you provide; it does not replace your payroll system.
